Face Laser Resurfacing

What is a Face Laser Resurfacing Procedure?

Face laser resurfacing procedures involve the use of lasers to remove the outermost layers of skin in an attempt to remove imperfections that may be a result of the aging process. Prolonged exposure to the sun, the environment, cigarette smoke, and harsh contaminants can cause the skin to age faster than it would under normal circumstances. Face laser resurfacing removes the old, damaged layer of skin, exposing fresh, younger looking skin underneath. The younger looking skin is free of blemishes, lines, and wrinkles, exposing fresh, clean, skin. It can take a face laser resurfacing procedure seven to ten days to heal, but in the end, the results allow the patient to look many years younger.

How Long Do These Procedures Take to Heal?

Face laser resurfacing procedures strip away the top layers of skin, exposing new skin underneath. Once the top layers of skin are removed, the pink layers underneath will feel similar to a bad sunburn. The skin will be pink and fresh immediately after the procedure. After a few hours, the skin will begin to crust over, creating a protective covering over the tender, freshly exposed layers of skin. After four or five days, the crusted layer will begin to peel off and the skin that was once pink and bright will look more natural and healthy. It can take anywhere from seven to ten days for the entire face to be fully healed and the new layers of skin to be a more natural, healthy color.

What Types of Imperfections Will This Procedure Correct?

Face laser resurfacing can remove blemishes and imperfections that lie on the surface of the skin. Mild acne scars, pimples, skin discolorations, and fine lines are easily corrected through the use of face laser resurfacing techniques. Once the procedure has been performed, the healing that takes place may actually be sufficient enough to tighten the freshly exposed skin and eliminate somewhat deeper wrinkles and creases. As the new skin begins to heal, any discolorations or slight blemishes that were originally on the surface will be gone. The new skin will be firmer, tighter, and more toned giving the face a much younger, more vital appearance.
